Some little aid to kids of Marawi City (thru the PSC's Mon Fernandez)
Breakdown Basketball made the trip down the the Philippine Sports Commission in Manila today (at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum complex) to donate some clothes and sports gear -- amounting to an initial five balikbayan boxes -- for the kids of battered Marawi City. We tied up with PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez on this one charity drive of which we will do again.
This is just part of our giving back not only to the game but to the country. We initiated the shaking of hands between all teams prior to a match; a move in which we hope to instill more sportsmanship and lessen the win-at-all-costs mentality that is so prevalent today. And we are looking forward to work with kids from orphanages to bring the game of hoops and give them a glimpse of the opportunities that the sport can give. And just like what we had when we were grade school students -- a charity drive to help the unfortunate and needy.
This is something that we will involve all the schools who participate in Breakdown Basketball. Watch for more details on that.
Yep. Hoops with a heart.
